Location: Northern end of Kyoto prefecture, jutting into the Sea of Japan (3 hours north of Kyoto)
The Tango Peninsula is on the north eastern top of Kyoto-fu and is host to an array of lovely beaches. The combination of sweeping white sand beaches and the distinctive shape of the hills which terminate at the beaches make this region extremely beautiful.
There are a lot of shrines and old Japanese architecture which make this stretch of coast extremely beautiful. Kumihama is another beach near this peninsula which is really lovely. Amanohashidate is supposed to be one of the top three sights in Japan so take a look at this when you go.
Other beaches include a lovely little bay area with rock formations at both ends called Hei-bama. They have a nice swimming area with white sand and good water temperature from June until October.
Another great place to visit is Kotobikki-hama which means “the beach that plays music”. The sand on this beach literally squeaks when you drag your feet.
