Sumida Park Hanami

Posted on 29 August 2009 by supergaijin

Location: Walk across the bridge on the Sumida river from Asakusa Station and walk north along the river a couple of hundred meters.

Sumida Park is always bustling at cherry blossom viewing time as it is very close to the popular Sensouji and Kaminarimon attractions at Asakusa. There are cherry blossom trees which line the Sumida river on both sides. Lots of people lay down ground-sheets and picnic under the trees at the park and there are plenty of stalls selling alcohol and traditional Japanese festival foods. There are lanterns strung up under the trees which illuminate them and look lovely along the river at night time.
